Barry graduated from the University of Toronto Medical School in 1982 and completed his residency in Family Medicine at Queen’s in 1985. After spending three years in Fort Frances, Ontario, he and his wife, Nancy, settled in the Orangeville area to raise their three children.
As a rural family doctor, he has delivered hundreds of babies and given thousands of anaesthetics, in addition to working in the emergency department and doing palliative care.
With a passion for medical ethics, he obtained his Masters Degree in Bioethics at the University of Toronto in 2006 prior to moving back to the Ottawa Valley (he was born in Renfrew, Ontario) where he now works.
When not practicing medicine, he and Nancy can be found enjoying the outdoors of Aylmer, Quebec where they now reside. Rumour has it that he still dons his goalie equipment in a local Aylmer ‘old boys’ hockey league.
